So, how was your Sunday? Despite the fact that we don't even get out of church until 4:30, we've had a pretty good day. We tried something new today. Our Ward held our first "break the fast". Everyone brought a simple dish, salad, chips, rolls, whatever, and at the end of our meetings, we broke our fast together, and had a little luncheon. It was a fun time to socialize and get to know some of the new people who have moved in. There was one cute little lady who brought a potato salad. This wasn't your ordinary tater salad. This fabulous woman had shaped her salad into the shape of a Costco sized sheet cake. She made roses out of tomato to put on top. She sliced hard boiled eggs and olives, and then put them on the outside edge of the "tater cake". It was so cool looking. Even my husband was impressed. He said, "We'll have to try that sometime." And the salad was pretty good. I'm a "nobody's potato salad is as good as my Mom's" kind of girl, but this came pretty darn close! And the meetings were pretty good, too. In Sunday School, I was reminded of the bicycle parable. I wanted to share it with you, but I don't know who wrote it, and can't remember everything exactly, so I'll just write in my own words what I remember.
There was a little girl who wanted a bike, so she told her Dad she really wanted one. He made a deal with her that if she worked really hard and saved her money, he would take her to the store to buy a bike. So she worked hard and did extra jobs, and the day came that she told her Dad she was ready to go buy her bike. Her Dad took her to the bicycle store, and she walked in and immediately saw the bike of her dreams. It had tassels on the handlebars, a basket, the works. She ran up to it, and looked at the price tag, then fell to the floor, sobbing. The price tag was much, MUCH more than she had earned. Her Dad knelt of the floor beside her and asked what was wrong. Heartbroken, she told him the price, and that she would never, ever be able to save that much money. He consoled her the best he could, then asked her if she had done her best to earn money to pay for her bike. She said yes. Then, her Dad said since she had done the best that she could, if she gave him all the money she had earned, he would make up the difference.
As a Mom, I really need to remember this. There are somedays that I just want to throw myself on the floor and scream, "I've given all I can. I don't think I can do anymore!" Days where I am so frustrated because I just can't seem to be the Mom I want to be. Days where I think I will never be what I should. But I need to remember that if I truly do my best, and give all I can, the Savior will do the rest, and He will make me into the Mom, wife, and person I want to be. I'm so grateful for that. It definitely will take some serious faith, but I'm gonna try.
On a lighter note, I discovered another favorite reality show tonight. Here Come the Newlyweds premiered tonight on ABC. It was so funny. Click on the link to learn about the show. I have 2 favorite couples. The African American couple-they were hilarious. And the Indian couple-because they really seemed to respect the aspects of their marriage that really shouldn't be shared with everyone and their dog. And I'm so excited, because Little People, Big World has their season premeire tomorrow night. It's gonna be a good TV week!
